Barcelona is a city to be discovered and, perhaps, a lifetime is not enough to be able to say that you know all the souls, all the secrets, that you have really understood it. Among the places not to be missed is the music garden or, rather, the Palace of Catalan Music: one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. A deeply suggestive place, thanks to its richly decorated interiors, colors, art that you can breathe just observing the façade. Everything you need to know about this place of rare beauty.
The Palace of Catalan Music, history of an extraordinary place.
It was imagined as a garden of music, a romantic name that brings to mind evocative images that combine art and beauty, nature and sounds. A perfect example of Catalan modernism, Barcelona’s Palace of Music is home to the Choral Society of Catalonia and the music school. Its history began at the beginning of the twentieth century, with the design by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The works for its realization lasted from 1905 to 1908. Since then, then, it has been the subject of new works on other occasions: restorations and extensions, such as the last ones that started at the dawn of the new millennium and saw the addition of an imposing building that houses dressing rooms, library and much more. In addition, in 1997 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site
A total immersion in beauty.
decorations, the stained glass, the spaces that welcome you and make you feel like in a dream: the Palace of Catalan Music is located in the Sant Pere district and can be easily reached from one of the most famous squares in Barcelona, or Plaza Cataluna. Only five minutes walk, as explained on the site. When you arrive you are immediately greeted by the extraordinary façade of this building. And if the first impact leaves you breathless, exploring the interior catapults you into a place that seems almost fairytale. After all, Barcelona is full of these places that seem stolen from a dream and turned into reality.
Its auditorium is a spectacular place: to illuminate it a suggestive teardrop skylight where you can glimpse a sun made with colored glass, the large room has walls richly decorated with busts and elements that recall nature such as fruits and flowers.
This is why we imagine it as a garden of music, because it seems to be really immersed in a nature where colors and beauty explode. Intimate and welcoming, however, is the rehearsal room of the Orfeó Català, also the ideal place for smaller shows or events.
The whole building can be visited, on the official website different options are proposed to get to know it: delving into its rooms, discovering its details and secrets, is undoubtedly one of the many things to do in Barcelona: a city of a thousand faces, full of places of rare beauty, contrasts, modernity that coexists with the past.
An incredible and unforgettable mix.
